Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever traveled to Connecticut for the first round of the WNBA playoffs on Sunday.
Clark was playing in her first WNBA playoff game in a matchup against the Sun. During the first quarter of the game, the rookie scored the first playoff points of her career.
With just over three minutes left in the first quarter, the Fever were down 16-14. Early in the Fever's offensive sequence, Clark took advantage of the soft defense by the Sun.
She attacked her defender on the baseline, got into the paint, and finished a reverse layup to help Indiana tie the game at 16 apiece.
The WNBA posted the video of Clark's bucket on social media.
Indiana's young star struggled to show off her offensive skill set against the Sun in the first quarter. She finished the first half with three points, laboring to find a rhythm as she shot 1-of-9 from the field.
Clark came into the playoffs as one of the most versatile offensive weapons in the WNBA. The rookie averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game in the regular season. She led all rookies in scoring and led the WNBA in average assists.
The Fever came into the matchup with some scorers in Kelsey Micthell, Lexie Hull, and Clark, but they were outplayed in the first half. At the break, Clark and Mitchell were a combined 1-12 from three-point range.
Connecticut's experience overpowered the talent on the Fever's roster early. The Sun headed into the locker room with a 46-38 lead over Indiana.
