Melting Pot in Midtown delays closure while building remains unsold

Midtown Reno's hub of Burning Man culture, The Melting Pot World Emporium, will be staying open throughout the holiday season.

In July, owner Eric Baron said the brick and mortar location would close after Burning Man due to a decline in sales following long-term construction along Virginia Street and the pandemic.

But selling the building hasn't been so easy. So, until a sale goes through, Baron said it makes more sense to keep the shop open to offset the costs of maintaining the building.

He described entering their final holiday season as "bittersweet" but felt it was special.

"It gives people a chance to shop local and shop at the Melting Pot one last Christmas," he said.

The shop specializes in counterculture gifts and clothing such as tarot cards, incense and cannabis accessories. Its eclectic goods will remain available on its online shop and at booths during pop-up events like Earth Day and Burning Man.
