First babies of 2025: Acadiana families welcome bundles of joy at Lafayette hospitals

Mother Falon Johnson and father Louis Green welcomed baby Legacy Green, 5 pounds 9 ounces and 18 inches, at 1:32 AM to become the first baby born at Women's and Children's Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 in Lafayette, La..

In the early hours of New Year's Day, Acadiana welcomed two brand new residents born at Lafayette hospitals.

The Cormier family of Lafayette welcomed a new baby boy, Jinx Cormier, born to parents Alayna and Bobby Cormier at 12:34 a.m. at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.

Coming in at 7 pounds and 20 inches, Jinx has four older siblings who are excited to meet their new brother, according to a spokesperson from Ochsner Lafayette. As is tradition at Ochsner when the first baby of the year arrives, the family was gifted with a new stroller and a diaper bag filled with essential baby items.

Just an hour later, Our Lady of Lourdes Women's & Children's Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2025. Legacy Green, a baby boy, was born to parents Falon Johnson and Louis Green of Baldwin at 1:32 a.m., four weeks before he was scheduled to arrive.

After Johnson was admitted to Women's & Children's with symptoms of preeclampsia on Dec. 30, Legacy entered the world just 36 hours later at a healthy 5 pounds, 9 ounces and 18 inches long. He will likely be allowed to go home as early as Friday morning, after ensuring his body can regulate temperature properly, according to father Louis Green.

Like Jinx, Legacy is also a baby brother to two older siblings. Falon Johnson says that he was named "Legacy" because he completes their family, and the whole family is looking forward to her and Green's wedding in November of 2025.

"My baby girl has decided that she will be the flower girl," she says. "She gave me permission to put her little brother in the wedding too, so I would like Junior to be my ring bearer.

"Little Legacy will walk too, and someone will carry him."

Johnson says that their families were excited to learn that Legacy was the first baby born at Women's & Children's in the new year, and that it was a surprise when she found out about the distinction.

"He's the perfect gift to begin this new year," she says.
