Ronald Araujo may leave FC Barcelona, even in this current transfer window. The latest rumors say Juventus FC are keen on the defender and the Catalans could be willing to sell.
The price has variously been reported to be between 45 and 50 million euro, to between 60 and 70 million euro.
There are reasons he could be bought at a relatively lower price. His contract expires next year, meaning Barça could lose him for free if they do not renew his contract or find a buyer. And he's only recently come back from a major injury.
Still, 45 million would be way too low for a defender of his quality. Joško Gvardiol and Wesley Fofana, to give a few examples. were sold for a price between 70 and 80 million. Matthijs de Ligt was also bought by Bayern Munich for around that much, although the German club ended up selling him for closer to 50 million to Manchester United.
Due to factors like his contract and injury situation, perhaps Araujo would be sold at a lower price than 75 million, but it should not be much lower. There is another factor at play here, which is that Barcelona may still be looking for player sales to fund a move for a big star somewhere down the line.
Barcelona are well-covered in his position, with Iñigo Martínez finding himself in great form and Andreas Christensen returning from injury, plus the excellent play of youngster Pau Cubarsí.
Still Martínez is 33 and Araujo is 25, and the latter has a better ceiling. That's a very good young defender to give away, and while you may not need him now, who knows how long Barcelona will be happy with Martínez as a starter.
If the money coming in is spent well, perhaps it'll make the transfer worthwhile, but in order for that to be the case, you need a good amount of money coming in.
The biggest problem is the player wants a bigger contract than the club has offered, and the time is ticking for them to find a buyer if they do not renew his deal.
