Free youth fishing derby set for Sept. 6 in Clinton

CLINTON -- State Sen. Sally Turner, R-Beason, and State Rep. Regan Deering, R-Decatur, are inviting area families to join them for a free youth fishing derby on Sept. 6 at Weldon Springs State Park in Clinton.

The park is at 4734 Weldon Springs Road in Clinton, and the derby will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

"I am excited to join Representative Deering in welcoming families to Weldon Springs State Park for a day of fun, fishing, and community," Turner said in a statement. "This event is a great opportunity for kids to enjoy the outdoors and learn about conservation."

The event is open to children of all ages, and no fishing licenses will be required. Attendees can enjoy free admission, free refreshments and the opportunity to win prizes.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Illinois Conservation Police will also be on site to assist.

"This event will be a great way to connect with the youth living in the 88th District and show them one of the beautiful state parks Illinois has to offer," Deering stated. "I am happy to co-host the Fishing Derby with Senator Turner, and I encourage families to join us for this great event!"
