In 1982, British Airways launched its Executive Club - which, as well as undergoing various iterations over the years, has amassed some 13 million+ members worldwide.
However, from Tuesday, April 1, 2025, it will be renamed The British Airways Club and will be subject to several changes - including a new tier points system based on how much you spend and new ways to earn that have prompted some online discussion.
Of the changes, British Airways' chief commercial officer Colm Lacy said: "Based on our members' feedback, we've built on the changes we've already made - including how customers collect Avios and their membership year - in a way that we believe better rewards their loyalty and reflects their changing travel needs." As mentioned, the new tier system will be based on the price of your flight as opposed to the previous system, based on the distance you travel - and for the first time, ancillary spend on things like luggage and seat selection will count towards your points.
From April 1, 2025, for every eligible £1 you spend, you will receive one tier point. Those who already hold BA bookings for travel after 1 April, though, will earn tier points based on a conversion of the existing model, with the company stating that "any existing bookings will earn proportionally the same number of tier points, or more, as they would today."
