Nearly 24,000 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles are being recalled because of a potential fire risk. The recall covers all 2019-2020 Leaf models equipped with Level 3 charging capability.
The lithium-ion battery in the Leaf may overheat during Level 3 charging, potentially causing a fire. Nissan says other signs of the problem may include interrupted charging, smoke, noise, or "thermal odors" coming from the vehicle's battery. Level 3 is the fastest form of electric vehicle (EV) charging, and is only available at public charging stations.

Owners are advised not to use Level 3 charging until the recall remedy is completed.
Nissan's remedy is a software update to the battery.
