ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) -- A Buncombe County jury has found a man guilty of voluntary manslaughter in a downtown Asheville shooting death.
Danquries Lamar Green was found guilty in the shooting death of Jamel Tyjon Grant on July 10, 2022.

According to an earlier News 13 article, Green turned himself in to the Asheville Police Department (APD) on Tuesday, July 12, at around noon, following the shooting, which occurred near the intersection of Spruce and College streets.
Green was tried on a charge of first-degree murder but claimed the incident was an act of self-defense.

Green testified on his behalf and claimed the victim flashed a firearm, leading him to believe that Grant intended to rob him.
As a result of the jury's guilty verdict on the lesser-included charge of voluntary manslaughter, Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Grant sentenced Green to serve an active term of imprisonment of up to 74 months.
