The Tiger is coming from Florida because LSU's resident tiger, Mike VII, is not permitted to leave the area he's never life in his life on campus. It will be the first time in nearly a decade LSU will have a live Tiger at a game, due to concerns and complaints from animal rights groups like PETA, who called the decision "idiotic." Despite activists opposition, Gov. Jeff Landry still pushed for the Tiger to be in attendance.
"The long-standing tradition of a live tiger at Death Valley is a memory that families across Louisiana cherish," Landry posted on a paid Instagram post. "For decades, Mike the Tiger safely paraded around the field. It can be done responsibly and safely this weekend-and in the future.
"Mike VII is a beloved member of the Purple & Gold community. We honor him with the return of a live tiger at Saturday's game, a welcomed homage to the energy and passion found only inside Death Valley.
"Geaux Tigers! Thanks for bringing back a great tradition!"
