With Thanksgiving just a week away, Stop & Shop and Hannaford shoppers are grappling with ongoing inventory shortages.
Stop & Shop and Hannaford are owned by the same Dutch Company, Ahold Delhaize, which first reported that its systems were attacked around two weeks ago.
However, Stop & Shop remains committed to returning items to their shelves in time for the big holiday.
"While there may be some limited inventory for certain products, we are working to re-stock our shelves and anticipate item availability to continue to improve over the next few days," Stop & Shop said in a statement.
In addition, the company says the stores are "well-stocked with turkeys and hams for Thanksgiving."
On Nov. 8, the parent company Ahold Delhaize said they detected a cybersecurity issue within their U.S. systems, prompting an investigation.
The company was vague when defining what processes were threatened during the attack. However, it said it affected some pharmacies, e-commerce online, and product deliveries.
The lingering effects of the cyberattack couldn't have come at a worse time for the grocery store, with Thanksgiving being one of the biggest sales weeks of the year.
According to Circana, a market research firm, Thanksgiving remains one of the biggest food holidays of the year.
"We look forward to serving our customers in the days ahead for the holidays," Stop & Shop said in its statement.
