It's never good to be losing basketball games. This much is obvious.
But the worst time to lose basketball games? The time of year when losing means you go home. From here on out, that's the reality Mizzou is facing.
Toward the end of a season in which Dennis Gates and his team have defied expectations from inside and outside Columbia, things are starting to look a bit grim. Missouri has lost three games on the skid, the most recent of which was a comprehensive beating on their once-vaunted home court. All the momentum they had after beating Alabama? Gone. All the good will they'd developed with the NCAA Selection Committee? Tarnished in the face of the past few weeks.
There's still time for the Tigers to get back on track before the NCAA Tournament tips off, but it's not going to be easy. Missouri begins SEC Tournament play this week and will face one of LSU or Mississippi State on Thursday. Should they get off their losing streak then, it'll likely be a string of facing the best teams in the country until they pull off an improbable run to the championship or bow out on their way to March Madness proper.
So things are win-or-go-home from here on out. Which begs the question: Are we worried that Missouri has lost all hope of recapturing its momentum? Let us know what you think in this week's Reacts survey below.
