Omaha police investigate a deadly crash at the intersection of 189th and West Maple early Thursday morning. Investigators said that the accident happened shortly after 10 p.m. when the driver of a Jeep pulled out from 189th Street onto West Maple and was hit by a Volkswagen heading eastbound.The Jeep rolled over multiple times, killing the driver. A female passenger in the Jeep was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen was unharmed.Sgt. Jason Menning with the Omaha Police Department said this marks the 46th fatal crash in Omaha this year, underscoring the importance of maintaining focus while driving."Look once, look twice to make sure the roadway's clear before you enter. Put the phone down," Menning said. "Let your passenger take the phone call. You drive responsibly and just watch out for each other. Drive defensively."
