In Week 7, LSU won in a classic over Ole Miss, Alabama survived a scare from South Carolina, and Texas routed Oklahoma in the first Southeastern Conference edition of the Red River Rivalry.
More high-profile games are on the docket for Week 8 in the SEC, as always.
Here are five topics to follow across the conference as an exciting, unpredictable season chugs along.
1. Texas' top billing
Welcome to the SEC, Texas. What better way to officially christen your entrance into the league than a home clash with Georgia? The No. 5 Bulldogs have a loss to Alabama, but they're presently the most feared, dominant program the conference has to offer. The showdown between these two teams is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season. With a win, the No. 1 Longhorns would cement their standing as the clear best team in the country -- and the SEC.
2. Georgia's upset hopes
Georgia, of course, could throw another wrench into the SEC's pecking order with an upset win over Texas. The Bulldogs are certainly capable of such a victory. But can they begin to meet the high expectations that were placed upon them at the beginning of the season? Georgia ranks just seventh in the SEC in both scoring offense and scoring defense. It needs to post better numbers in both categories, or else it won't seriously compete for the national title it hopes to win.
3. Alabama's big road test
Alabama has had an unusual two weeks. First, the No. 7 Crimson Tide suffered a shocking upset loss to Vanderbilt. Then, it barely survived at home against a South Carolina team that nearly picked up a come-from-behind win after it recovered a late onside kick. Tennessee has had its struggles lately. But the No. 11 Vols will undoubtedly be motivated to earn an elusive win over Alabama at home. The Tide will need to be at its best to avoid a second loss.
4. Tennessee's opportunity
Tennessee breezed through its first three games, then hit a rough patch once league play started. The Vols beat Oklahoma on the road by two scores, then dropped a road game to Arkansas before needing overtime to defeat Florida at home. Alabama's trip to Neyland Stadium offers Tennessee a chance to wipe those concerns away and reassert itself in the race to the SEC title game. When's the last time Alabama looked this vulnerable? Expect the Vols to do their best to take advantage.
5. Taylen Green's health
The last time Arkansas took the field, it pulled off an upset win over Tennessee -- even though its starting quarterback Taylen Green suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter. The redshirt junior Boise State transfer appears on track to suit up for the Razorbacks' home game against LSU, a crucial development for Arkansas and its hopes of pulling off a second straight upset win over a top-10 team. Its offense simply isn't the same without him.
