For some, horseback riding can be the ultimate bonding experience with the animal world. Sure, you take your dogs on walks, or you cuddle on a couch with a cat. But while riding a horse, you and your mount are moving like one, your bodies and thoughts in sync as you fly over the hills -- or just trot around the paddock.

For those who know how to ride, this feeling can be relaxing, enjoyable, or even exhilarating, but it isn't only people who love the sensation of traveling by horseback. It turns out that many dogs like to ride as well.

In this video, we see a small white Jack Russell Terrier approaching a man on horse back and jumping up repeatedly in the air, obviously begging to be taken for a ride as well. The man leans over to catch eh dog, bringing him up in front of him on the saddle so they can go together. In his proper place, the dog is clearly elated. They continue their walk around the corral, with the dog giving his dad thankful kisses and the dad snuggling him in return.

"Nothing like having good horses, good dogs and good friends," writes the man in the caption.

"Nothing better than a Jack Russell barn dog," observes another person in the comments.

"Not sure who is the most attractive/adorable here? The horse, the man or the dog?" Writes one woman, echoing what many other ladies are mentioning as well. We love an animal lover.

Dogs and Horses

Dogs and horses are among two of the oldest and most established of domesticate animals. They have been part of human society for thousands of years, and have longed worked side by side in ranching, herding, hunting, and even wartime situations. Though many pet dogs in the suburbs and cities may be initially frightened but the sight of such a large animal as a horse, dogs who have grown up side by side with horses on farms and ranches take them in stride, and can even develop strong relationships with these animals, just like all the other livestock on the farm.

In the comments, people tell stories of their own dogs who loved to go riding with their horses, and even cats who "stowed away" in saddlebags because they so wanted to be out on the trail.

Jack Russell Terriers

The dog in this video is a Jack Russell Terrier, a small breed of terrier bred in England as a fox hunting dog. Jack Russells have a high level of energy (as evinced by the jumping maneuver seen in this video). They are sturdy and tenacious, and require plenty of activity and stimulation in their lives. Their adorable appearance and winning behavior makes them an excellent companion animal and they are a popular breed to be kept as pets, even in households without serious acreage or hunting habits.

The Jack Russell Terrier is also often presented as a sort of "everyman's dog" in media, and is popularly displayed to stand in for canine-kind at large. The first famous Jack Russell in media is "Nipper" the RCA dog who is listening to "his master's voice" on a phonograph. Eddie, a Jack Russell terrier played by a father and son dog over the years, was a pet on the sitcom Frasier. And K.K. Slider is an anthropomorphic Jack Russell and a famous musician in the world of Nintendo's Animal Crossing game.
