Nov. 12 -- Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Steve Graham as the new director of the New Mexico Film Office, the Governor's Office announced Wednesday.
The appointment of Graham, who took office Wednesday, comes more than three and a half months after former Director Amber Dodson left the position.
Dodson joined the office in March 2020 and saw the office through the coronavirus pandemic, record film spending and a boost of film activity in the state.
The role was filled in the interim by Acting Economic Development Secretary Mark Roper.
Graham, a native New Mexico producer, writer and director, brings more than 25 years of managing film and television productions to the table, the Governor's Office said in a news release. He also is a co-founder of the production company Go2 Media, has produced more than 100 television episodes and worked on more than a dozen films, including Netflix's Black Summer, CBS Studios' Walker: Independence and Syfy's Z Nation.
"Steve Graham is a native New Mexican whose deep roots and extensive background in film and television production make him an outstanding choice for this position," Lujan Grisham said in a statement. "His proven leadership and innovative approach will continue to elevate New Mexico as a premier film destination, creating more opportunities for our talented local workforce and promoting diverse voices."
Graham, who is also involved in several local film organizations and initiatives, said in a statement he is "honored" to step into the role and further nurture the growing industry.
"Our state has an extraordinary pool of creative talent, and I am committed to ensuring that we continue to grow, innovate, and provide meaningful opportunities for New Mexicans in film," he said.
