Cameron Berg to miss this weekend's series against top-ranked Denver

GRAND FORKS -- UND added yet another player to its injured list.

First-line center Cameron Berg will miss this weekend's showdown with No. 1 Denver due to a lower-body injury.

Berg is listed as week-to-week.

His targeted return is somewhere around Christmas break time. UND's final series before the three-week break is Dec. 13-14 against St. Cloud State. The Fighting Hawks resume regular-season play after break against Arizona State on Jan. 10-11.

UND also has an exhibition Jan. 4 against Manitoba.

Berg has been a key player for the No. 9-ranked Fighting Hawks (5-4).

He is the lone player averaging more than a point per game with eight points in seven games. He has four goals and four assists.

Berg, a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Islanders, also missed the Cornell series two weeks ago with an injury. UND lost both games in his absence.

UND has several options at center without Berg.

Sacha Boisvert, Carter Wilkie and Jake Schmaltz have been regulars at center this season, while Louis Jamernik V, Owen McLaughlin, Ben Strinden and Mac Swanson have a history of playing center.

The Fighting Hawks played last weekend at Minnesota Duluth without forward Cody Croal, defenseman Bennett Zmolek, defenseman Andrew Strathmann, defenseman Tanner Komzak and goaltender Kaleb Johnson.

None are expected to play against the Pioneers.

Komzak has returned to practice. Croal and Strathmann have skated. All three are listed as week-to-week.

Zmolek and Johnson are out indefinitely.

UND recently added goalie Aleksi Huson to help in practice as the team's third netminder.

The Fighting Hawks swept Minnesota Duluth 7-3 and 4-1 last weekend in AmsOil Arena despite the injuries.
