BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WLOS) -- On Sept. 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene hit communities throughout Western North Carolina, bringing powerful winds, torrential rains and quickly rising flood waters.

ASHEVILLE LEADERS FOCUS ON LONG-TERM HELENE RECOVERY DURING WORK SESSION

In many towns, such as Black Mountain, North Carolina, the fast-moving waters swept away buildings, bridges and roadways and destroyed public areas.

Since the storm hit, Black Mountain has faced many challenges, relying on the resilience of its residents and on the efforts of leaders such as town manager Josh Herrold.
