Tony Khan wants ROH to have a bigger platform and reach more fans, as he is committed to making the show as strong as possible. While he is still working on securing a good TV deal for ROH, it seems AEW once turned down an offer at some point.
While speaking on The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp was asked if there was any update on the television deal for Ring of Honor. He said there was an offer at one point, but it wasn't to AEW's liking based on what he understood.
While there was a deal on the table, it ultimately did not make sense for them. Sean Ross Sapp added that he believes they ended up securing a different piece of content instead.
"There was an offer at one point, but it wasn't to AEW's liking -- from what I understood. But yeah, there was one on the table, it just didn't make a lot of sense. I think they ended up getting another piece of content instead."
Tony Khan previously stated that ROH is important and can grow along with AEW, especially after AEW's big media rights deal. He stated that believed there is a lot of interest in ROH and has had great conversations about TV partnerships. As AEW grows, he believes ROH will also get more chances for TV and streaming deals.
"It's a great company. I love ROH, and I think that really, for us, it's important to look at, there's a great opportunity to grow Ring of Honor as we grow AEW. AEW just secured this huge media rights deal, and it's a complimentary thing to have another great wrestling promotion with that history. I do think there's a lot of interest right now in Ring of Honor. I've had great conversations about TV partnerships with ROH, and I think as AEW continues to grow, there's going to be more great opportunities for ROH in streaming and television."
Therefore, we will have to wait and see when Tony Khan might secure a TV deal for Ring of Honor. After all, many fans believe the show deserves weekly national television exposure to reach a wider audience.
