Heading into fantasy football drafts this summer, Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown was a sleeper pick in the later rounds. Brown took first-team reps for most of training camp and had a solid opportunity to be a consistent fantasy option throughout his second NFL season.
However, that hasn't necessarily been the case through the first two weeks of the season. Brown has taken a backseat in Cincinnati's offense to begin the year.
So, should fantasy managers cut Brown heading into Week 3? Let's dive in and find out.
When Brown was taking first-team reps in training camp, his average draft position (ADP) rose tremendously. But those fantasy managers who took a chance on him in the later rounds might be considering dropping him heading into Week 3.
Brown has only scored a combined 8.4 PPR fantasy points through the first two weeks while playing less than 35% of the offensive snaps in both contests. In those two games, the second-year running back has barely been involved on offense. In Week 1, he totaled six touches for 23 yards, and last week, he had just four carries for 31 yards.
However, we shouldn't drop him just yet in fantasy. Despite the first few weeks being a big disappointment, starter Zack Moss isn't quite tearing it, either. Moss averaged 2.83 yards per carry last week, and if that continues, Brown could see more opportunities on the field. As a result, you should hold the young running back in fantasy for at least a few more weeks.
If Brown is available on waivers right now, he could be a potential add for some fantasy managers. In most 10-plus team leagues, he doesn't necessarily need to be added and should just be left on waivers. However, he is worth a waiver add in 12-plus team leagues heading into Week 3.
While the start of his season hasn't gone to plan, Brown also started slowly last year before getting going late in the year. He totaled over 50 yards from scrimmage in four of the final six games of the 2023 campaign. So, he should be someone fantasy managers pickup in deeper formats.
