Restaurants are opening and closing across Columbia. Here's the latest

Columbia's food and dining scene is ever changing, and this week is especially packed with restaurant openings and closures. Keep reading for the lowdown on what eateries will be rolling up -- and rolling out -- of your neighborhood in the near future.

Food & Drink With widespread power outages from Helene, Columbia coffee shops provide shelter -- and outlets By Jane Godiner jgodiner@postandcourier.com Opening: Ferrara Real New York Pizza

Location: 6801 St. Andrews Rd., Unit 15

"From New York to South Carolina," Ferrara Real New York Pizza will dish up thin-crust slices in Irmo. Menu highlights include Mediterranean pizza, chicken tikka pizza and "Ferrara's Special" with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onions, green peppers and meatballs. The restaurant's ribbon cutting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21 at 11:30 a.m.

Open: Aroma of India Authentic Indian Cuisine

Location: 707 Harden St.

With a mission to serve Columbia diners regional cuisine from across the Indian subcontinent, Aroma of India boasts offerings from "from the vibrant streets of Mumbai to the serene landscapes of Kerala." With as many South Indian offerings as North Indian ones, the restaurant hopes to stretch the bounds of what Columbia associates with Indian food. Menu highlights include Hakka (Indo-Chinese) paneer fried rice, soya chaap tikka malai "sizzlers" and a selection of sweet and salty lassis.

Australian-themed restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse is opening another location in the midlands in Lexington County. The new restaurant will employ 125 residents, feature local art and donate $5,000 of its grand opening proceeds to the Lexington Medical Center Foundation, the chain announced. Its ribbon cutting is scheduled for Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m.

The restaurant-bar by the University of South Carolina's basketball arena, which offered snackable bar bites, pizza and new American fare no longer inhabits the 700 Lincoln St. lot. What will arrive in its place is still undisclosed, but a sign outside of the closed restaurant assures diners that "A new and exciting restaurant concept will be opening soon." Open: Cork and Cleaver Steakhouse

Location: 924 East Main St.

Former Greenville restaurant Cork and Cleaver has now found a home in Lexington County, where it serves up prime cuts of steak, along with all of the usual suspects for fixings. Most posted about are the roasted brussels sprouts and cheese dip with toasted crostini.

Opening: Wingstop

National chicken chain Wingstop is opening another location in Columbia. Business reporter Hannah Wade has the scoop on where.
