Three teens arrested after Nashville school administrators find guns during random search

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) arrested three teenagers after school administrators discovered weapons during a random search on Friday.

The search was conducted at East Nashville Magnet High School, according to the MNPD. Two 11th graders reportedly tossed their backpacks as the search was being conducted. Once the bags were recovered, a handgun was located in each one.

As a result, MNPD said that a 16-year-old was charged with juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property, simple possession and violating drug-free school zone laws. Additionally, a 17-year-old was arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property and possession of burglary tools.

MNPD added that a third handgun was found inside another 17-year-old's vehicle. That 12th-grader was arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession and carrying a weapon on school property.
