VACAVILLE -- The city will host its third annual Día de los Muertos celebration hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department.
This free event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2.
There will be folklorico dancers, Danzantes Unidos, and music by Los Cochinos. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with Vacaville's rich history by visiting the Peña Adobe Historical Society and Vacaville Heritage Council booths.
Several on-site food vendors will provide Latin snacks, featuring tamales, champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate), pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and more delicious treats.
Participants are encouraged to bring photos of lost loved ones to place on the community altar. Marigolds, electric candles and handcrafted picture frames will be provided and are intended to go home with each family to become part of their familial altar.
To get pictures returned, write the owner's name and phone number on the back.
Any pictures left behind can be retrieved at McBride Senior Center, 91 Town Square Place, by Nov. 8. It is recommended that participants bring a copy of their picture. The city is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged pictures.
At this event, the city will share insights and seek community input to feed the Arts and Culture Master Plan, which will guide the future of public art in Vacaville. Stop by the Parks and Recreation booth to share your thoughts.
