Apple Rumoured To Release Wall-Mounted Smart Home Tablet With AI Features In 2025

This device will compete with Amazon's Echo Show, Google's Nest Hub

Apple is preparing to announce a new smart home hub, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. As soon as March 2025, the company could debut a wall-mounted tablet that functions as a control center for smart home devices, supports video calls, and integrates Apple's advanced AI, dubbed Apple Intelligence.

The device is expected to feature a 6-inch touchscreen but will also support voice commands via Siri, Apple Intelligence, or a forthcoming system called "App Intents," allowing AI to manage apps. It reportedly runs on a new operating system, includes proximity sensors to detect nearby users.

As per the report, the product will be promoted as a hub for controlling home appliances, interacting with Siri, and hosting intercom calls through Apple's FaceTime. It will come preloaded with Apple apps, including those for web browsing, news updates, and music playback. Users can access their notes and calendar, and the device can also double as a digital photo frame, displaying slideshows of their pictures.

Apple's upcoming smart home device will compete with Amazon's Echo Show, Echo Hub, and Google's Nest Hub, as well as Meta's failed Portal. The report adds that the device will have a display-only version priced similarly to competitors, ranging from $150 to $230.

Apple has created various attachments for its new device, including wall mounts and bases with additional speakers, intended for use in kitchens, on nightstands, or desks. The FaceTime feature is envisioned for activities like cooking or videoconferencing during work meetings. The device is designed to enhance Siri and Apple Intelligence, with a more interactive experience.

Going by the report, the product will be a standalone device, capable of operating independently, but it will require an iPhone for certain tasks, including initial setup. It will also support Apple's Handoff feature, allowing users to start a function on the device and seamlessly continue it on their iPhone.
