Who are the Eagles playing next? Eagles-Rams playoff history as divisional round game nears

The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Los Angeles Rams in a divisional round weekend game on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Lincoln Financial Field.

It will be a rematch of a Week 12 game in Los Angeles, where the Eagles won 37-20 on the back Saquon Barkley's two touchdowns and 255 rushing yards.

But, the two teams have a bit of playoff history dating back to the earlier days of the NFL. As the teams prepare to faceoff, here's a look at the most memorable Eagles-Rams playoff games:

Jan. 27, 2002, at Dome at America's Center in St. Louis. Rams 29-Eagles 24

In the first of five NFC Championship game appearances for the Eagles under head coach Andy Reid, Donovan McNabb and the upstart Birds nearly knocked off the eventual Super Bowl winners.

The Eagles took a 17-13 halftime lead thanks to touchdowns from running back Duce Staley and wide receiver Todd Pinkston plus a David Akers field goal.

But quarterback Kurt Warner, running back Marshall Faulk and the rest of the "Greatest Show on Turf" were too much for the Bids in the second half.

Despite a passing and rushing touchdown, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb threw an interception to cornerback Aeneas Williams in the final seconds to seal to game for the Rams.

Dec. 31, 1989, at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. Rams 21-Eagles 7

While the Buddy Ryan era in Philly came with plenty of memorable games, this wasn't one of them.

Despite having star quarterback Randall Cunningham and a stellar defense led by great Reggie White, the Eagles were thoroughly outplayed in the upset loss.

The Rams offense dominated, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Los Angeles, led by two touchdown throws by quarterback Jim Everett, amassed 409 total yards against the Eagles' vaunted defense.

Looking for back-to-back championships, the Eagles were trailed in a decisive shutout victory in one of the franchise's most signature victories.

The Eagles buried the Rams thanks to legendary Eagles running back Steve Van Buren, who rushed for 196 yards. The Birds got touchdowns from great Pete Pihos and Leo Skladany.

The Eagles' defense shut down the Rams' offense, which was led by quarterback Norm Van Brocklin. The eventual Fall of Famer would later lead the Eagles to the franchise's third championship in 1960.
