NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN host Randy Moss revealed he has cancer.
The announcement came about a week after Moss said he was taking a step back from his role hosting ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" due to a mystery illness.
Just days before he said he was going on hiatus from the show, fans noticed that his eyes were yellow in one of the episodes.
On Friday, Moss posted on Instagram Live that he has cancer while wearing a 'Team Moss' shirt with a purple ribbon on it. He said the lavender ribbon on the shirt stood for all types of cancer awareness.
"I've told y'all over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally, and your boy is a cancer survivor," he said in the video. "I did have cancer, they found it in the bile duct, right between the pancreas and the liver, and the cancer was sitting right outside the bile duct."
He then revealed that he had been in the hospital for the past six days, and was aided with a cane in the video.
Moss also said that he had a six hour surgery and received a Whipple procedure, which is an operation "to treat tumors and other conditions in the pancreas, small intestine and bile ducts," according to the Mayo Clinic. "It involves removing the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bile duct."
The Mayo Clinic also said that it's a complex surgery that can have serious risks, but it often "saves lives."
He then talked about selling the 'Team Moss' shirts on RandyMoss.com, where most of the proceeds will go to cancer research.
Moss said that the journey of nursing himself back is "going to be a tough road" that will include chemotherapy and radiation. He then thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
