Victor Cruz: Giants' Malik Nabers deserves to be on a contending team

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is currently at home watching his good friend and former LSU teammate, Jayden Daniels, stacking up playoff wins.

While Nabers is undoubtedly thrilled for his buddy, he's also likely quite sour over how his rookie season went. All of the personal achievements and individual records aside, the team compiled their worst record (3-14) in franchise history.

Nabers deserves more than that, says former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz.

"I love the way he catches the football, I love his explosiveness. I think he's an absolute superstar at the position, and we need to make sure that we cultivate that," Cruz told FanSided. "He's earned the right to be in contention and be on a team that is in contention every year, so hopefully the Giants can provide that in years to come."

But that's not the Giants. And it won't be the Giants in 2025 and quite possibly, not even in 2026.

Much like Odell Beckham Jr. before him, the Giants seem to be on the verge of wasting Nabers' potential. It's a vicious cycle they can't seem to get out of.

Still, Cruz has been impressed with Nabers both on the field and off of it despite his glaring frustrations.

"I think he understands where he's been drafted, and what comes with, and he understands that there's a lot on his shoulders. And I think he's handled that tremendously this year, not only on the field but off it as well. So I just love his game," Cruz added.

But how long can Nabers remain cool, calm, and collected as his talent is wasted? If the Giants can't buck this trend in the coming seasons, Nabers may seek refuge elsewhere. Perhaps even in Washington, where the Commanders are now headed to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.
