Patriots hold top spot in 2025 draft after five weeks

The Patriots are one of six teams that are 1-4 through five weeks of the 2024 NFL season. And while it's still very early, there is already talk about the 2025 NFL Draft and how New England could end up with a top pick for a second consecutive year.

After the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday -- their fourth in a row -- Tankathon put them as the top team for next year's draft. New England is followed by the Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.

The Patriots have already been linked to University of Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. An NFC scout recently spoke to ESPN's Jordan Reid and Matt Miller and said Hunter would be a good fit for New England.

"I love him in New England. Yes, they have issues to address up front for the young quarterback (Drake Maye), but I'm not taking any of these offensive tackles as high as they will be picking," the scout said.

The Patriots have a slew of problems this season, most notably the offensive line. Things got even worse for the unit with the loss of David Andrews for the year due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. The wide receivers also struggled to find a groove early on this year.

Hunter has 46 receptions for 561 yards and six touchdowns for the Buffaloes this season. While he would provide a weapon for Maye, there's no telling if Hunter will be NFL-ready immediately.

There's plenty of football left to be played and a long way to go before next year's draft before the Patriots can start thinking about 2025.
