MEMPHIS, Tenn. -The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a driver who had a revoked driver's license due to a DUI dozed off at an intersection along North Germantown Tuesday morning with his foot on the brake and a gun on his lap.
The THP said James L. Baker, 28, also had drugs in his car and is facing several charges, including possession of marijuana and being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
A trooper said he approached Baker's car at North Germantown Parkway and Chickering Lane after seeing it sit through two full traffic signal cycles.
The Trooper said Baker was asleep at the wheel with his vehicle in drive, and he had a loaded Glock and a bag of marijuana on his lap.
Baker has a lengthy criminal record in Shelby County. According to the affidavit of complaint, Baker had his license revoked in 2019 for DUI of drugs or alcohol and in 2020, was convicted of manufacturing and selling a controlled substance. He was sentenced to one day in jail.
Baker is also facing charges of driving with a revoked license and obstruction of a highway. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
