WASHINGTON (7News) -- DC Water learned Sunday that their team has been requested in Asheville, NC to assist with the ongoing hurricane recovery. The team is set to depart Monday morning to assist with logistics, planning, and getting the resources needed to help restore water and sewer services.
The team will load up and depart the DC Water headquarters on Canal St Southeast in Navy Yard.
As the East Coast prepared for the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton weeks ago, the local water company recognized the potential for widespread disruption to water and sewer services inundated by heavy rains and storm surges.
The damage from Hurricane Helene destroyed the City of Asheville's water system. Residents there are being urged not to drink tap water. Anyone served by Asheville City Water is being asked to boil their water vigorously for at least one minute before ingesting it.

Affected communities are being advised to use bottled water to brush teeth or other consumption.
A boil water notice means there are known elevated levels of bacteria in the water. Under a Boil Water Advisory, conditions are conducive to elevated levels of bacteria.
There is no set timeline for when the water in the region will be restored.
