During the third quarter of the Georgia Bulldogs vs. Texas Longhorns game on Saturday night, chaos erupted inside Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium.
With Georgia leading Texas by a score of 23-8, UGA quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception to the Longhorns' Jahdae Barron, who returned it 36 yards to the Bulldogs' 9 yard-line.
Despite minimal contact, the call was initially ruled a defensive pass interference, meaning the ball would remain with Georgia.
Texas fans were quick to express their frustration after seeing the replay inside the stadium, tossing bottles onto the field and causing a delay in the game following what was clearly a bad call.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was understandably furious. After urging the officials to reverse the call, he turned his focus to the 100,000 fans in the stands, gesturing for them to stop throwing items onto the field.
After a few minutes of cleanup, the officials unexpectedly overturned the call - which was not a reviewable penalty.
This time, the coach on the other sideline lost it. ABC's cameras showed Georgia head coach Kirby Smart going nuts, screaming at the officials over their decision to overturn the call.
Smart looked visibly shocked upon hearing the decision over the loudspeaker. He appeared to mouth "what?" before losing his composure and confronting the officials.
While the final call was likely correct, Georgia fans' frustration came from the belief that the poor behavior from the Texas faithful gave the officials extra time to reconsider and overturn such a crucial decision.
"I guess if fans don't like a call just throw enough stuff on the field and maybe it gets overturned," posted UGA Football Live.
Texas would go on to score a touchdown two plays later, cutting the lead to 23-15, Georgia.
However, the Bulldogs would bite back, using an 86-yard pass to put the Dawgs in scoring position before punching it on 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard-line.
Georgia's touchdown extended the lead once more and made it 30-15.
