Following on from the success of British documentaries "Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story" and "Brawn: The Impossible F1 Story", Disney has announced a brand new documentary film about the former Love Island presenter, "Caroline Flack", who sadly took her own life in 2020.
Caroline Flack has previously worked as a presenter on many shows, including "The X-Factor", "Big Brother's Big Mouth" and the Brit Awards. The presenter also has had romantic relationships with Prince Harry and One Direction's Harry Styles.
Her career spiralled into chaos following her being arrested for assault allegations against her boyfriend, tennis player Lewis Burton. It had been revealed at an inquest that Flack had hit and attacked Burton while he slept as she thought he was cheating.
She was released on bail with the condition that she not contact Burton and was due to stand trial on 4th March 2020, but sadly just a few weeks before the trial, Flack was found dead in her flat after hanging herself.
This new British Disney+ Original film is going by the working title of "Caroline" and will follow Flack's mother, Christine Flack, as she seeks to understand the events that took place in the final months of her daughter's life.
The documentary will feature first-hand testimony, among them Flack's family and friends, as her mum embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about the circumstances that led to her tragically taking her own life in 2020.
Christine Flack said in a statement regarding the new film:
"I still have so many questions about what happened to Caroline in her final months, and it's something I feel deeply compelled to explore, even though I know it will be challenging. I'm pleased to be working with the team at Curious Films once again, in the hope of bringing clarity and understanding to Carrie's story - not just for her, but for everyone who cared about her."
The upcoming film is going to be produced by Curious Films, which is the production company behind the 2021 documentary "Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death", which was previously created for Channel 4.
"Caroline (w/t)" will be executive produced by Dov Freedman, Charlie Russell and Jessie Versluys for Curious Films. The documentary will be directed by Christian Collerton and produced by Sophie Clayton-Payne. The documentary was commissioned by Sean Doyle, Executive Director, Unscripted and is executive produced by Gaby Aung, Senior Manager, Unscripted for Disney+.
Dov Freedman, executive producer, Curious Films added:
"It's not often that you feel the need to return to a subject, but nearly five years after Caroline's tragic death, we know there are still many unanswered questions for Christine and her family that need to be addressed. We're proud to be collaborating with the Flack family once again, working together to seek some form of resolution to the tragic events surrounding Caroline's death."
This new documentary is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in the UK and around the world later this year. As with other documentaries like this, it's likely it will be released as a Hulu Original on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States.
Roger's Take: Caroline Flack was a very well-known and liked presenter in the UK, so while this documentary might not have too much global appeal, it will no doubt be of interest to many British subscribers and highlights the importance of creating original programming for local audiences. Hopefully, this documentary will help the family and fans understand what happened.
