Bridgeport man charged with stabbing delivery driver in Stamford agrees to plea deal

STAMFORD -- A 54-year-old Bridgeport man accused of stabbing a food delivery driver and assaulting his son accepted a plea deal on Tuesday.

Tracey Baker agreed to a deal that would involve him serving 18 years in prison, with the sentence being suspended somewhere between eight and 12 years after it begins, as well as five years of probation. The exact details will be decided when Baker is officially sentenced.

Baker, who appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford wearing a bright orange jumpsuit, pleaded guilty to three charges: assault in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell.

The first of those charges stemmed from an incident on April 13, 2022, in which a food deliveryman from the Old House Restaurant in Stamford ended up in the hospital with serious injuries following an altercation with Baker.

The driver delivered food to Baker's girlfriend, who confronted him about the way he was driving outside of the residence on Perry Street.

Assistant State's Attorney Sean McGuinness said the woman called the restaurant and to complain and to tell them "she would be getting her husband to take care of the matter."

Soon after, McGuinness said, Baker confronted the driver in the elevator. Once the driver got to the main floor, Baker allegedly charged at him and attacked him.

"At some point during this scuffle, the defendant stabbed (the driver) with an unknown object that has never been located in the side," McGuinness said.

The delivery driver made a full recovery from the injuries, Assistant Chief Richard Conklin told The Stamford Advocate in July 2022.

The other two charges that Baker pleaded guilty to were related to an incident on Dec. 28, 2021, after Baker and his girlfriend got into a verbal altercation. After police arrived, they discovered that Baker had become frustrated with the behavior of his son, a minor at the time, McGuinness said.

The assistant state's attorney said Baker became angry after his son about some makeup, which resulted in Baker allegedly strangling his son.

When responding to that call, police found about 70 methamphetamine pills on Baker.
