An Alabama man is behind bars after Florida Highway Patrol says the vehicle crash he caused in Escambia County Wednesday killed a 14-year-old boy.
FHP says they arrested 49-year-old Shawn Wilber of Daphne, Alabama, after he was charged with one count of vehicular homicide and one count of DUI manslaughter for the death of a 14-year-old involved in the crash.
The News Journal previously reported that FHP was investigating a crash that occurred on Nov. 6 on Interstate 10 near mile marker 9 in Escambia County.

The van contained a 50-year-old woman, 50-year-old man, 25-year-old man, 12-year-old boy, 27-year-old man and the 14-year-old boy.
FHP originally said the 14-year-old was critically injured, but were later notified the child died in the hospital. Everyone else in the vehicle was listed as sustaining minor injuries.
"Wilber was originally charged with and arrested for DUI causing serious bodily injury on the night of the crash," a new FHP release said. "A juvenile occupant in the Toyota SUV was pronounced deceased on Nov. 9, 2024."
Wilber is currently held without bond in Escambia County Jail.
