BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Cold weather will continue to dominate our weather through Thursday, but our focus shifts to the potential for locally heavy rainfall toward the end of the week.
WEDNESDAY MORNING LOWS
Wednesday morning lows will be similar in most areas to what we experienced on Tuesday, with generally a light freeze expected. Take care of people, pets, and plants. If you're near and north of the state line, you can drip a faucet to be safe but I'm not expecting major issues with pipes for the majority of our area.
WEDNESDAY FORECAST
After a light freeze to start the day, chilly temperatures remain in place, with highs topping out in the low 50s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
FOCUS SHIFTS TO RAIN
Widespread rains will arrive by late Thursday as low pressure tracks near the Louisiana coastline. Note that only liquid rain is expected locally, with any frozen precipitation likely staying well to our north.
LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE
The latest outlook from the Weather Prediction Center shows totals averaging 1.5''-3.0'' for most of our viewing area, with locally higher amounts not out of the question.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The good news is that once the rains exit by Friday afternoon, we'll enjoy dry weather for the remainder of the weekend. Temperatures remain below normal into next week, although not as cold as what we're currently experiencing.
