Families tackling childhood cancer granted $15,000 worth of groceries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - On Monday, the Tom Coughlin Jay Foundation surprised 11 families tackling childhood cancer with a Winn-Dixie shopping spree.

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Hunger Action Month, Winn-Dixie, together with the Winn Dixie Gives Foundation, provided two full shopping carts to Jay Fund families.

Shoppers also received $300 Winn Dixie gift cards from THE PLAYERS Championship.

For families tackling childhood cancer, their days are often consumed with trips to and from the hospital and taking time out of their day to go grocery shopping can be challenging.

"Today is about giving these families a couple of weeks of peace of mind," the foundation said in a news release. "They can fill up their fridge and pantry and not have to worry about the grocery bill."
