Chelsea are ready to make a bid for Mathys Tel this month if Bayern Munich give them any encouragement in their pursuit of the forward.
It is understood that Chelsea enquired about Tel last summer and have asked Bayern again about the potential availability of the 19-year-old during the current transfer window.
Chelsea are yet to make a firm bid for Tel and it is also believed the Germans may hold an interest in Chelsea's forward, Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku is frustrated by his lack of playing time in the Premier League, despite the fact he is Chelsea's joint top-scorer with 13 goals.
Head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear that he believes Nkunku is too similar in style to Cole Palmer, who also has 13 goals, which has restricted his playing time.
Chelsea have not discussed any sort of swap deal with Bayern and it remains to be seen whether or not Tel and Nkunku could end up moving in opposite directions.
Tel is behind Harry Kane at Bayern, which means he has been restricted to 12 appearances so far this season in which he has so far failed to score.
Despite his frustrating campaign up until now, Tel is rated as one of the best young forward prospects in Europe and Tottenham Hotspur asked about taking him as part of the deal that secured Kane's move to Bayern in 2023.
German sources have indicated that Tel has indicated a desire to succeed at Bayern and it is currently unknown whether or not he would welcome a move to Chelsea.
Known for his pace and dribbling, Tel can play through the middle or from the flank and is a France Under-21 international.
Chelsea are attempting to offload a number of players this month and have also made an enquiry about Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi, who is on a list of potential defensive targets.
