CHICAGO -- A man was hospitalized after a shooting involving Chicago police on the Southwest Side early Saturday morning.

According to officers, the shooting unfolded just before 12:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of South Kedzie Avenue, in Brighton Park.

Officers were initially called to the scene after receiving a report about an aggravated assault and a person with a gun in a business in the area.

After officers arrived on the scene they found a man who police say pulled out a gun, and when they attempted to disarm him, he allegedly opened fire.

According to Chicago police, an officer at the scene returned fire and struck the man.

Following the shooting, officers began rendering aid to the man before he was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Officers said a firearm was later recovered at the scene.

Chicago police say no officers were injured in the incident and members of the Investigative Response Team are investigating.

The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days, police said.

Specifics of the shooting, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) and CPD says it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
