PULLMAN -- The new Pac-12 will have to look elsewhere for its next additions.
That's the word from Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, who reported Monday morning that Memphis, Tulane and USF are expected to reaffirm their commitments to the American Athletic Conference and turn down invitations to the Pac-12, which needs at least two more schools to meet the minimum number of eight to compete as an FBS conference.
Washington State and Oregon State gained new conference members in Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State and San Diego State earlier this month, reaching to the Mountain West Conference to build the Pac-12 to six schools.
Who might Pac-12 commissioner Theresa Gould target instead? Early indications are Gonzaga, UNLV, Air Force, UTSA and Utah State, which have seen the conference's expansion presentation, according to the report.
The Pac-12 has until the summer of 2026, the end of the two-year grace period allowed by the NCAA, to rebuild the conference to a minimum of eight member institutions.
