Baldie Con to celebrate Alopecia Awareness Month - 41NBC News | WMGT-DT

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Baldie Con, an empowerment conference for the bald community, is set for this weekend in Atlanta. September is Alopecia Awareness Month and the nonprofit is aiming to provide resources to those in need.

Founder, Felicia Flores, started balding in 2001. Flores has been bald since 2006, but didn't stop wearing wigs until 2015. Flores wanted to create a safe space and empower others who were bald, and she created Baldie Con.

Baldie Con is a conference to celebrate, honor, and unite people who are bald from Alopecia, Cancer, Lupus and/or by choice, according to Flores.

Baldie Con helps people by providing referrals to hair loss specialists or mental health therapists, speaking at schools to youth about bullying or providing grants to help people buy custom wigs.

The 3rd Annual Baldie Con will be September 27 - 29 at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead. The event will include informative panels, speakers, experts, celebrity appearances, and entertainment.

Flores wants to emphasize that this event is for everyone, not just people who are bald.
