Jordan-Elbridge High School honors Deputy Cailee Campbell

JORDAN N.Y. (WSYR-TV)-It was a somber start to Friday night's, Sept. 27, Jordan Elbridge football game.

Everyone there paused for a moment of silence to honor fallen Oswego County Sheriff's Deputy Cailee Campbell, a 2009 J-E graduate student remembered by teachers as a girl who always had a smile on her face.

11th grade U.S. History Teacher, Jason Kufs shared that she was happy in her presence, and she was "just like a person that shined a bright light and made me smile and always worked hard."

But for Kufs, the one thing that immediately came to mind when he heard of this tragedy was her laugh.

"A very memorable laugh, like the way she laughed so like," Kufs said. "You can think about losing someone, she had a laugh that was distinctive."

After graduating, Kufs was still able to see the last 15 years of her life through social media. But what made him most proud was her law enforcement career, stating, "I don't think anybody was ever more excited about their profession than Cailee was being a police officer."

Long before Deputy Campbell wore her badge, she ran track throughout high school. Yes, she was fast, but that's not what made her stand out on the team... it was her heart.

"On the team, she always brought us up, which is hard for a coach. She was always so excited. She galloped everywhere she went. Whenever we're moving from activity to activity, she was the first one there with a smile on her face," said Benjamin Alexander, Campbell's coach.

Always being the team's helping hand, "She was so involved with helping. Helping me, helping the teammates, not surprising to go into something where you want to help others," said Alexander.
