The San Diego Padres ended the 2024 season in a Wild Card spot. The team saw the Mets and Braves battle for a spot in the playoffs, with the Braves getting the opportunity to travel to San Diego.

The offseason saw the Padres trade Juan Soto to the Yankees, but Michael King delivered on his end with over 200 strikeouts and a 2.95 ERA. Dylan Cease also had over 200 strikeouts while throwing a no-hitter. Manny Machado had another solid season, as did Luis Arraez, who won his third straight batting title.

The Braves have been a consistent force in the NL East through the 2024 season. Matt Olson had another monster year, as did Marcell Ozuna. The latter hit over .300 with close to 40 home runs.

King will start Game 1 for the Padres. Chris Sale may win the NL Cy Young Award following an 18-3 record and 2.38 ERA. However, he may not pitch Game 1 due to back spasms. The Braves have not announced a pitcher for the start of the series.
