New court documents show the man sentenced for attempting to shoot Omaha police officers is appealing his conviction. Jason McKillip is serving 55 to 79 years in prison for multiple charges, including three counts of attempted assault on an officer. The attempted ambush happened in June near 28th and Ida streets.The Omaha Police Officers Association released security camera video that showed McKillip running to the back of a house when confronted by officers. Police shout at him, "Get your hands up, hands up."In the video, McKillip is seen hiding before pulling out a gun, fidgeting with the firearm and then finally surrendering. Fremont police said he was on the run after firing at someone a week before the attempted ambush.The appeals court has not set a date for a hearing; however, the court has set a February 5, 2025 deadline for McKillip to file a brief.
