Free rabies vaccine clinic coming up in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WETM) -- Pet owners in the Watkins Glen area who need to get their furry friends vaccinated will have the chance to get it done at an upcoming clinic.

Schuyler County Public Health is holding a rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 15. Pet parents can bring their cats, dogs, and ferrets to the Shared Services Building, located at 910 S. Decatur St. in Watkins Glen, for a free vaccination. Walk-ins will be accepted, but people can register in advance on Schuyler County's website. Those who would like to register ahead of time must do so by 4 p.m. on Feb. 12.

Animals must be at least three months old to get a vaccine, and owners should bring proof of prior rabies vaccinations if this isn't their pet's first time being vaccinated. All cats and ferrets must be in a pet carrier with only one pet in each carrier. Dogs must be on a leash or in a carrier. All animals must be accompanied by a responsible adult who can hold the pet during the vaccination, and each person should only bring the amount of animals they can control.

While vaccinations at the clinic are free, donations will be accepted and appreciated. All New York State residents are welcome to attend any of the vaccination clinics held in counties across the state. People in the Schuyler County area who can't make the upcoming clinic in Watkins can check Schuyler County's website for future clinics or check for upcoming clinics in neighboring counties like Steuben, Chemung, Yates, or Seneca.
