NOVI, MI - There aren't many events like this where you'll find many of the biggest athletes in Detroit sports history in attendance at, both past and present.
Some of the greatest players ever to put on Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons uniforms will be at the second annual Detroit Sports Spectacular.
The sports con is at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi from Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1. Tickets ($15/day, $40/weekend) are available at the door, cash only. Autograph and photo tickets are sold separately, cash or card.
The event will feature everyone from Barry and "Megatron" to "Miggy," "The Worm," "Hutch" and Jared Goff.
"The first one went well and this one is trending well," Brian Schwartz with Schwartz Sports Memorabilia told MLive. "Obviously, with the Lions doing what they're doing and having many of their biggest names is big."
Sunday will be the day for Lions fans with current team members scheduled: Aiden Hutchinson, Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brian Branch, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Alim McNeill, Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold, Jake Bates, DJ Reed and DJ Reader.
Lions greats scheduled for Sunday are Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, Jason Hanson and Eddie Murray.
And that's on top of Red Wings greats Chris Osgood, Bret Hull, Mike Vernon, Adam Oates and Chris Chelios scheduled to be there Sunday.
Saturday will feature Pistons greats: Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn, Mark Aguirre and Dennis Rodman, along with Tigers greats: Alan Trammell, Jack Morris, and Armando Galarraga.
National guests Saturday include Reggie Jackson, Wade Boggs, and Christian Laettner, along with actress Lori Petty.
Friday guests include: Miguel Cabrera, Dave Bing, David Montgomery, Ricky Williams, Thomas Hearns, Daunte Culpepper, Denny McClain and Alex English.
"We first try to get those who are available. We also want a star who we think will have broader appeal. If you're a baseball collector or fan, you want Reggie Jackson or Wade Boggs."
Saturday will also feature numerous members of the 2003 Michigan National Championship team like J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum, Roman Wilson and Mike Sainristil. Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. will also be there.
"Before Patrick Mahomes was a superstar, he did a card show in New Jersey and hasn't done one since and may never do one again. We like to also get guests like Penix Jr. before they potentially become a superstar."
This event will also have hundreds of sports card and memorabilia dealers. Schwartz says take your time and explore when at the event.
"Make sure to allow time to walk around. There will be a lot of cards, collectibles, vintage stuff and Pokémon dealers. There's going to be a huge mix of things. There will not only be Michigan area dealers, but others who don't normally travel to the state.
