An Israeli airstrike hits central Beirut for the first time in nearly a year of conflict
JERUSALEM (AP) -- The first apparent Israeli airstrike in central Beirut in nearly a year of conflict has hit hours after Israel struck targets across Lebanon and killed dozens of people as the Hezbollah militant group sustained a string of deadly blows to its command structure, including the killing of its overall leader, Hassan Nasrallah. The airstrike on Monday hit a multistory residential building. That's according to an Associated Press journalist at the scene. An official with the Lebanese Civil Defense says at least one person was killed and 16 people were hurt. Videos showed ambulances and a crowd gathered under the building, where the strike appeared to have targeted an apartment.
