What color the Red Sox' newest City Connect uniforms will reportedly be

The Red Sox haven't unveiled their newest City Connect uniforms yet, but we have an idea of what they'll look like.

Boston's second edition of the City Connect uniforms will have a primary color of green, WEEI's Rob Bradford reported Saturday.

The news was reported in the midst of the Red Sox' Fenway Fest event, which replaced the annual Winter Weekend the team previously held at MGM Springfield and Foxwoods Resort Casino in the past. However, a complete unveiling of the new City Connect uniforms wasn't expected to take place at Fenway Fest, MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported earlier in the week.

While green isn't one of the Red Sox' primary colors, this won't mark the first time that the team will wear green uniforms. They wore green uniforms for a regular season game against the Yankees in April 2007, rocking them to honor long-time Celtics coach and executive Red Auerbach after he passed away in the previous offseason.

Of course, the Red Sox also have green St. Patrick's Day uniforms that they typically wear on the holiday every spring training. But the tradition was discontinued in 2023. A team spokesperson told The Boston Globe's Alex Speier that Nike "no longer produces the green jerseys for teams" after the Red Sox unexpectedly didn't wear their St. Patrick's Day uniforms in 2023. Players still wore green caps, though.

Nike, who became MLB's jersey supplier in 2020, created the City Connect uniform series in 2021. Since then, all but two teams have unveiled City Connect uniforms.

The Red Sox were the first team to unveil a City Connect uniform. The jerseys, which were meant to reflect each team's city, culture, and community, were inspired by the Boston Marathon. Even though the blue and yellow look was unorthodox for the Red Sox, the uniforms were popular among fans as the team seemed to play better in them.

Each team's City Connect uniforms are a part of their uniform rotation for only four seasons. Instead of tossing away the popular City Connect looks, though, the Red Sox opted to keep them as a core uniform and ditch their blue uniforms. Nike requires each team to only have four core uniforms plus their City Connect uniforms, with special exceptions being made for one-day uniforms. The Boston Marathon-inspired City Connects will join the Red Sox' home white uniforms, their away gray uniforms, and their red alternate uniforms as part of the core group.

As for the new City Connect uniforms, it's easy to draw several connections on what they might be inspired by. There's obviously the Green Monster and the Green Line, which is the main way of public transportation to Fenway Park.

It might be some time before we officially see the Red Sox' newest City Connect uniforms. MLB has typically waited to unveil each team's City Connect uniforms until just days before the team wears them for the first time. For instance, the Red Sox unveiled their first City Connect uniform on April 6, 2021, before wearing them for the first time less than two weeks later.
