KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- An announcer for the Crimson Tide Sports Network said during Tennessee's matchup against Alabama that the crowd noise was being "piped into" Neyland Stadium, according to a post on social media.
Several Tennessee Athletics leaders responded to the claim on the same platform, affirming that the noise that announcers were hearing was the result of more than 100,000 screaming fans -- not electronic speakers or other means.
Tennessee Athletics said on social media that, "they'll say we pipe in flyover noise as well." It shared a clip of a jet flyover taken from Neyland Stadium, usually done before major football games. Danny White, the university's athletics director, also pushed back on the accusations.
"No, we don't! Just 100K+ beautiful, booming, Big Orange voices!" he said.
Tennessee Football shared an image of different social media posts describing the atmosphere during the matchup. One said "the press box at Neyland is shaking" and another described the environment as "electric."
Tennessee won against Alabama 24-17, after a tense start that saw Alabama in the lead for the first half. Fans stormed the field once the game ended, tearing down goalposts. UT had to pay a $100,000 fine after fans stormed the field.
