Google says Gems are 'one of the most used Gemini Advanced features,' adds file upload

Gems, or custom instances of Gemini focused at specific tasks, can now incorporate files in their instructions for "more tailored and contextually relevant responses."

When creating Gems, which Google says today has been "one of the most used Gemini Advanced features" since the August introduction, you can now upload (under "Knowledge") up to 10 files:

In the case of Google Docs and Sheets, "Gems will automatically recognize the latest updates" and revisions. These files will serve as source material. Example of how this can be useful in work contexts include:

This is rolling out to Gemini Advanced subscribers via Google One and Google Workspace (Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-on).

Meanwhile, Gemini for Workspace subscribers will soon see six new premade Gems:

Similarly, Google is rolling out the ability for Workspace accounts to use the Gemini app on Android "over the coming weeks."
