In a recent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Deepinder Goyal shared the amusing backstory behind the name of his food delivery platform. The host Kapil Sharma commented on the brand's unique name. "We've all heard of potato and tomato, but Zomato? Where did that come from?" he joked. Referring to a popular commercial featuring cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth debating pronunciation, Kapil teased, "So, is it 'Zomato' or 'Zomaato'? What's the real story here?"

Goyal explained the origin of the company's name. He said that they originally wanted "tomato.com" as the domain name, but it was already taken. So, they decided to get creative and simply switched a letter - that's how "Zomato" was born! This simple change became the name of one of India's most recognizable food delivery platforms today.

The host Kapil Sharma asked Goyal how he met Grecia, who hails from Mexico. Goyal opened up and said that he had been single for a long time, with friends often setting him up on dates while advising him not to rush into settling down. However, when a friend introduced him to Grecia, he felt something different and had a strong sense that she might be "the one." He agreed to meet her, and they quickly formed a connection.

For the unversed, Grecia Munoz, now known as Gia Goyal, has established herself in the modeling and luxury fashion industries. Originally from Mexico, she built a successful career in the luxury goods sector and was recognized with the Metropolitan Fashion Week award in the U.S. in 2022.

Gia and Deepinder Goyal tied the knot earlier this year in a private ceremony, followed by a honeymoon in France. This marks Deepinder's second marriage, as he was previously married to Kanchan Joshi, a professor at Delhi University. They have a daughter named Siara.
