Buffalo firefighters rescued two children from a fire early Wednesday evening that displaced 18 people, a Fire Department spokesman reported.
One of the children, an 8-year-old boy, was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. His condition was not considered life-threatening.

A firefighter also was hurt while responding to the blaze. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center with a shoulder injury.
Fire crews were called shortly after 5 p.m. to a two-story home at 241 Hazelwood Ave., between East Delavan and Easton avenues, in the Langfield neighborhood. According to the report, the fire began on the first floor and reached the second floor before it was brought under control.
The spokesman said the Red Cross is assisting five adults and 13 children. Damage was estimated at $175,000 to the building and $100,000 to the contents. The cause remains under investigation.
